A Glimmer of Destiny Book 1 of the Glimmer Steel Saga eBook Spencer Pierson
Just on the verge of adulthood, a young man finds friends in unexpected places, adventure and an awareness that there is much more to his world than he has ever known before - both good and bad. A mixture of medieval castles, advanced technology, and powers of the mind skillfully blended into a coherent, entertaining story line. Characters to love, to hate, and some you just aren't sure about. Appreciate the absence of gratuitous "blood, guts and gore" - I find way too much of that in the fantasy genre. Look forward to reading the next book in the series.Product details

A Glimmer of Destiny Book 1 of the Glimmer Steel Saga eBook Spencer Pierson Reviews
This book is one of those coming of age stories that inspired me to become an author myself. The main character is likeable, has great friends, and his adventures are both fun and harrowing. My only complaint is the typos and spell-check errors throughout the book. That said, don't allow minor technical errors to prevent your enjoyment of this book. I'm off to get book 2 now!
As with any new author I began this read with some trepidation and perhaps a more critical point of view than usual. After a few chapters it became more and more difficult to extricate myself from the narrative and make those critiques I might normally reserve for the novice writer. Mr. Pierson weaves many layers of fantasy and hints at even more all the while creating a sense of suspense that makes one thirst for more. In the end I found myself eagerly anticipating the next chapter and now of course the next book, truly the goal of any storyteller. Well done Spencer!
It is an amazing journey through the imagination. A whole new world to discover and learn about while the main character grows and goes on adventures. I love the story and have encouraged my kids to read it as well. I look forward to the next book in the series to see where the adventure takes the characters next.
As an adult reader, I totally enjoyed Glimmer of Destiny. I loved the character of Aiden and his friends. I especially like how Aiden problem solved. He looks at things from a problem solving mentality, and leaves the "what if" / consequences to the female character. I really appreciate how the author Spencer Pierson created each character along the lines of "typical people" and yet put in surprises for youths to take note of. I found it well done and will definitely be reading the rest of the series.
I think what I liked best about this book was the intricate world building and a cast of characters that reveal depths of their own. It is fortunate that the sequel is due out in September so that I will not have to wait long.
There are many aspects of plot that are waiting to be developed ( just what exactly IS our protagonist's best friend for example)? And the main character is detailed and intriguing, as are the many sub-cultures he encounters throughout the book? I can hardly wait!. Well done!
An entertaining book for young adults with both an original story line and reasonably well developed characters. The story is maybe a bit too much centered around the main character, Aiden, whose "talents" keep growing as the book progresses; sometimes in ways that are not necessarily the most logical. But after all this is about about magical capabilities and so some liberty is permissible. The only slightly more annoying part is that some secondary characters come and go, e.g., the young girl during the water festival, and their purpose remains unclear. They may surface in a latter book, but within the context of a single book they leave the reader wondering what they were about. Nevertheless an entertaining read, and the second volume in the series was just as good.
Normally I dont bother to write reviews, but only 40% in to this book I have to vent my frustration. As a person who enjoys reading fantasy books with unique and novel ideas of magic systems, so far I see potential and enjoy that aspect of the book. However as I read is seems I am constantly confused as the author uses his imaginary and unique nouns for descriptions of scenes that leave me more confused than heightening the description of a scene. For example "it looked like a small garkit" or "The various projections flashed like a strangely disjointed herd of zerigeld leaping over a fiery, moving field of fury." Both times the noun garkit or zerigeld do nothing but distract and confuse me as the author is clearly trying to use them to describe a scene.
Long story short, the story is pretty good but the world building is left behind, confusing me enough to bother actually writing a review.
